Sure, it’s made-up holiday designed chiefly to boost the sales of greeting cards, red roses and restaurant dinners. But so what? They all make your Valentine feel special, which, after all, is what really counts. So here are a half-dozen restaurants perfect for your V-Day tryst. (That’s Tuesday, Feb. 14, just in case you weren’t paying attention.)

At Max’s Grille (404 Plaza Real, 561/368-0080) the wildly popular Mizner Park eatery is offering a slew of a la carte offerings, from such aphrodesical starters as oysters on the half-shell with champagne mignonette to first courses like roasted pear and sunchoke soup with gorgonzola dolce to entrees like lobster shepherd’s pie.

Also in Mizner Park, Uncle Julio’s (449 Plaza Real, 561/300-3530 is presenting their Plato de Amor, a special for two lovers that includes a lobster tail, shrimp brochette, beef and chicken fajitas, plus rice, beans, guacamole and pico de gallo. Cost is $49.95, and for another six bucks you can get the V-Day special dessert—raspberry cheesecake flan.

Delray’s rockin’ Buddha Sky Bar (217 E. Atlantic Ave., 561/266-9898) dishes up a five-course $60 dinner for two. It kicks off with truffled edamame, then goes on to a heart-shaped tuna roll gilded with red tobiko, shrimp har gao, surf ‘n’ turf and the restaurant’s killer dessert bento box. Champagne deals too, just for good measure.

For Love at First Bite, check out the menu at Pangea Bistro (10140 Forest Hill Blvd., 561/793-9394). The classy Wellington restaurant is offering a three-course menu for $65 per person that lists such temptations as lobster hearts of palm salad, grilled beef tenderloin and mojo chili prawns, and chocolate-Nutella paté.

For something a little different, Burger Bar by Chef Allen (4650 Donald Ross Rd., Palm Beach Gardens, 561/630-4545) is rolling out a special burger, this one a luxurious truffle burger with red wine demiglace, truffled potato chips and beets pickled in champagne vinegar, sugar and spices. Try with a glass of good French champagne.

And even if you’re single, you don’t have to miss out on the fun. Boca’s English Tap & Beer Garden (5050 Town Center Circle, 561/544-8000) is holding a Singles Mingle from 4 p.m. to close, with happy hour prices for the entire night. That means half-price beer, wine, well drinks and select cocktails, as well as munchies starting at $4.95.
