The battle for chicken wing supremacy in and around Boca Raton is heating up more than we ever could have anticipated.
In the September/October issue of Boca Raton, food editor Bill Citara put "the paltry poultry appendage" to the Boca Challenge, purchasing Buffalo-flavored wings from five area restaurants and then rendering his verdict. After sampling fare from four Boca spots—Big Joe's, Brewzzi, Hurricane Grill & Wings and Miller's Ale House—and one Lake Worth spot (Wings Plus), Citara declared a close victory (by a half-wing on the four-wing rating system) for Miller's Ale House. Big Joe's and Hurricane Grill & Wings finished second.
But that wasn't the end of the story. Last week, a representative from Bru's Room in Deerfield Beach (the venerable sports bar also has locations in Delray Beach, Boynton Beach and Pompano Beach, among other places) called me to say hold the celery sticks and blue cheese. Bru's Room, the self-proclaimed "Wings Capital" of South Florida, wants a shot at the title.
So the wing gauntlet has been tossed. Bru's Room claims that it will put its Buffalo best up against Miller's Ale House—and any other restaurant that wants to throw down (all in good fun, of course).
We'll keep you posted on how this challenge on top of a Challenge plays out. In the meantime, let us know what your favorite wing spot is in and around Boca.
