Congrats to Shaun Aloisio and the crew at Scuola Vecchia (522 E. Atlantic Ave., 561/865-5923) for earning well-deserved recognition as one of the 35 best pizza-makers in the country from The Daily Meal. If you’ve ever tasted one of their elegantly simple, perfectly realized pies you know what the Meal folks are talking about. If you haven’t, well. . . what are you waiting for?

Word’s in on what will replace Dennis Max’s shuttered Assaggio del Forno in West Boca. It’s Damiano, a Southern Italian joint from former Max partner John Williams that ought to be more in line with the West Boca demographic than Max’s modestly adventurous Assaggio concept. Chef will be Peter Masiello, late of Il Bacio and Prime in Delray.

Malcom’s restaurant at the posh but struggling Omphoy resort in Palm Beach has reopened after a month-long hiatus for renovation and training. The resort’s premier eatery will also begin serving dinner daily in November, with menus that range from a pair of weekly tasting offerings; a roster of small plates, crudos, and cheese and charcuterie; and a more standard app-entrée menu that includes dishes like sea urchin custard with caviar and sous vide salmon with truffle-citrus vinaigrette.
