If your idea of Christmas cooking is putting out some milk and cookies for Santa, you’ll be pleased to know that many local restaurants will be open Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day to do the cooking for you. And a lot more than milk and cookies.
In Mizner Park, Tanzy (301 Plaza Real, 561/922-6699) will be open normal hours both Christmas Eve and Day. On the big day itself they’ll be serving a three-course meal for $27.95 per person, which includes choice of soup or salad, oregano and apricot-glazed roasted turkey breast with an assortment of sides, and red velvet bread pudding for dessert.
Max’s Grille (404 Plaza Real, 561/368-0080) will be open both days, serving its regular menu until 11 p.m., then opening on Christmas at 5 p.m. A special a la carte menu will be offered, with such delectables as stone crab claws with Key lime-honey mustard dipping sauce, beet and blue cheese salad, Maine lobster shepherd’s pie, bread pudding with dark and milk chocolates. Other Dennis Max restaurants—Max’s Harvest and the new Mexican—will be open Christmas Eve serving their regular menu.
Another relative newcomer to Boca, Stephane’s (2006 NW Executive Center Circle, 561/893-8838), is serving its full menu from 11:30 a.m. to midnight both Eve and Day. I’d probably start with some oysters or filet mignon tartare, then go on to something ridiculously decadent like lobster termidor or a 22-ounce bone-in ribeye with sauce béarnaise, then finish with a trio of silken crème brulees.
At Prime (110 E. Atlantic Ave., 561/865-5845) in Delray, the swanky neo-supper club will be closed Christmas Day but will be open Christmas Eve dishing their signature steaks and seafood preparations from noon to 8:30 p.m. Go traditional with, say, a cold, potent martini and thick, juicy USDA Prime steak or more nouvelle with super-premium saké and tempura lobster sushi roll.
Also in Delray, Cut 432 (432 E. Atlantic Ave., 561/272-9898) and Park Tavern (32 SE 2nd Ave., 561/265-5093) will be open from 5 to 10 p.m. Christmas Eve, serving their regular menus of wicked-good steaks and inventive gastropub fare. I recommend one of Cut’s mixological cocktails with their awesomely luscious burger or the Tavern’s maple-glazed pork belly, which goes down nice and easy with one of their encyclopedic selection of craft beers.
More elegant feasting can be done at The Restaurant at the Four Seasons Palm Beach (2800 S. Ocean Blvd., 561/582-2800), where from 5 to 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve you’ll find a five-course tasting menu of such dishes as cranberry, chestnut and chive risotto and beef tenderloin with smoked potato croquettes. Cost is $75 per person. On Christmas Day there’s an extensive buffet from noon to 8 p.m. for $110 for adults and $35 for kids 12 and under. For that you’ll get everything from stone crab claws and poached shrimp to wild mushroom and truffle soup to an assortment of charcuterie and sushi to several main courses and more desserts than you can shake a toothbrush at.
