In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Sara Sloan, founder of Sloan Fitness and Personal Training in Delray Beach, offers this exhilarating couples' workout:

    •    Wall sit against your partner’s back, which works the quads, hamstrings and glutes (gluteus maximus).
    •    Weighted ball toss with a squat, which works the legs, arms and abs. This exercise builds strength, while incorporating cardio.
    •    Push-up facing partner, with a high-five.
    •    Leg throw-downs for abs. Here’s how: your partner stands at your shoulders and throws your legs down while you resist force.

Sloan says you and your valentine will give your heart and muscles a workout, as well as burn calories, build intimacy and encourage trust.

Another opportunity for a good heart workout…

One Beat CPR is sponsoring the 4th Annual Tour de Broward benefitting the Pediatric Cardiac Center at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. During the February 24 event, participants will ride, run or walk with family and friends, while enjoying live entertainment, heart-healthy activities and refreshments.

Cyclists can participate in a 50k (kilometer) or 100k ride; runners can sign up for a timed 5k; and families can do the 3K walk/run together. The event also features a Power of Play Kid Zone, where children get the chance to participate in sports-related activities, interactive games and more.

To date, Tour de Broward has raised more than $500,000. The charity’s mission is to save lives and provide critical care for cardiac patients. Proceeds from Tour de Broward will be used to purchase state of the art medical equipment and provide emergency assistance to families.
