For most of us, the Big 4-0 is a milestone. Given the half-life of most restaurants nowadays, a restaurant hitting its 40th B-day is a million-milestone. So congrats to John G’s (264 S. Ocean Blvd., 561/588-7733), the celebrated lunch spot of John Giragos and family. For 38 of those years, it was a fixture in the Lake Worth casino but now relocated to Manalapan.

The official 40th anniversary celebration is set for Saturday, Sept. 21, when the restaurant will offer breakfast and lunch specials. Proceeds will be matched by the family and donated to the Hospice of Palm Beach County Foundation. The restaurant is also asking fans to bring in photos of themselves and their families at the restaurant during its four-decade run, to be posted on a giant board. All those who participate will be entered in drawings for gift certificates and assorted merch, so start going through those old photo albums (or hard drives).

Summertime, and the barbecuin’ is easy. . . especially when you let Max’s Grille (404 Plaza Real, 561/368-0080) do it. Through mid-October, Dennis Max’s Mizner Park eatery is dishing up a Sunday night barbecue special—an entrée, two side dishes and dessert for $24.95 per person.

They're calling it the Grill Party Barbecue Dinner, your choice of two of three entrees (baby backs, brisket or a quarter chicken), plus sides like cole slaw, watermelon salad, corn on the cob, mac ‘n’ cheese, and more, followed by the likes of strawberry shortcake or chocolate peanut butter pie. Dinner begins at 5 p.m. and lasts all night long.
