You can’t find many weeds that grow faster than the Palm Beach Food & Wine Festival, which in a couple of years has gone from a nice little (and little-noticed) local event to a five-day orgy of food, wine, and national food and wine celebrities. Well, the festival folks just released the schedule and list of hosts for the 2013 bash—which, btw, is set for Dec. 13 to 17—and it looks bigger and better than ever.
Just a few of the big names scheduled to show: Daniel Boulud, Ted Allen, Robert Irvine, Amanda Freitag, David Burke, Todd English, Francois Payard and Marc Summers. Our local toques will be featured too, among them Clay Conley, Michael Schwartz, Lindsay Autry, Zach Bell, and Dean James Max.
Among the sessions that caught my eye:
Cloud 9 (Friday, Dec. 13, 11 p.m. to 2 a.m., Four Seasons Palm Beach). It’s the festival’s first official after-party, a dessert extravaganza with pastry chefs Johnny Iuzzini, Christina Tosi and Jennifer Reed, plus Four Seasons chef Daryl Moiles dishing their favorite sweet creations (and probably making a lot of local dentists very happy).
Chillin’ N Grillin’ ( Saturday, Dec. 14, 12:30 to 3 p.m., Four Seasons Palm Beach). Ted Allen will do the hosting, and chefs Robert Irvine, Amanda Freitag, Jeff Mauro, Marc Murphy, Dean Max and Johnny Iuzzini will do the grilling, each at his/her own station outdoors on the resort’s oceanfront terrace. Really, how bad can that be?
The Last Supper (Monday, Dec. 16, Buccan). No, not that Last Supper. This one is the last supper of the festival, with Buccan’s Clay Conley joined by Todd English, David Burke and pastry chef Joanne Chang for a multicourse dinner with wine pairings to boot.
