Where: 14813 Lyons Road,
Suite 100, Delray Beach, 561/270-3839

The lowdown: For those of us stuck in the east Boca mind-set (myself included), driving all the way to west Delray for a drink may take some convincing. Luckily, the Delray Marketplace, located on the corner of Lyons and West Atlantic Avenue, is filled with things to do, which makes a half-hour car ride out there a little more tolerable. Of course, if you happen to live out west, this is perfect for you.

Part of this hot spot: TAP Global Beer Collection, a place definitely worth checking out. TAP’s main seller is beer, obviously, but not just any type of beer. They serve just about every kind of craft beer imaginable. Dozens of stouts, saisons, pale ales, IPAs, porters, ciders and more—and that’s just on tap. There are bottles to choose from and a decent wine list too.

The staff is pretty knowledgeable when it comes to the TAP beer. Upon asking the waitress for suggestions, she knew exactly what to recommend as soon as I noted the kind of beer I like. She even brought over samples. When a beer I wanted (that happened to be on special) was all tapped out, there was no problem switching it to something else. Accommodation is always a key to good service, and the TAP staff is on its game in that regard.

As for ambience, imagine the inside of a log cabin, with carved wooden tables and chairs and rustic decor. The bar runs long at the front and side of the restaurant, with a spacious center area. There's a small VIP room off to the side where guests can hold private events.

The crowd is mixed, and a lot of the nightlife filters in from Frank’s Theatre next door. I can't blame them. From Mondays to Wednesdays, a movie stub will get you 15 percent off drinks.

The intangibles: TAP offers a rewards-based TAP Club Membership with tons of perks including half-off all drafts every Monday, first access to limited brews and random exclusive prizes just because they feel like it. When you sign up, you get a free pretzel and draft and more free stuff with all the points you accumulate. You even can win two free tickets to the American Craft Beer Festival and Oktoberfest in Germany! Featured specials include 30 percent off select bottles and karaoke on Wednesday nights, trivia and Ladies Night on Thursdays with half off select drafts, and a 15 percent off military discount.

TAP does have a small menu of pub snacks, such as baked buffalo chicken poppers, soft pretzels or the house-made house fish dip; the latter may be served with store-bought pita chips, but it’s excusable because that dip is delicious! However, the real treat is being able to order food from any of the surrounding restaurants and have it delivered. Customers can look through a binder full of menus from Burt & Max’s, Shula Burger, Cabo Flats, Red Rock Grille, Terra Fiamma, and Bella Amici — give them a call and they bring the food right to you!
