October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and you can expect to see a flurry of pink for the next few weeks-- all for a stellar cause.
Here are a handful of incentives in our own backyard that help everyone in the fight against breast cancer.
1. Hair Cares
We recently wrote about two dry salons in our area. Blow And Go, located in Boca Raton, is offering free pink hair extensions throughout October. The salon is also donating 20 percent of all blowout proceeds to the Boca Raton Regional Hospital.
2. Feeling Thirsty
Delray’s SoLita Italian Restaurant & The Parlor Lounge is featuring their signature watermelon martini for the entire month. A portion of each cocktail’s proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
On that same strip of the Avenue, The Office will also be serving up cocktails for a cause. Order a "Pink Slip" martini and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation! Cheers!
3. Sweat It Out
Flywheel Sports, the indoor, extreme cycling studio in Boca, has partnered with Bright Pink, a national non-profit focusing on prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer for young women. The sports center is selling custom pink Pure Karma T-shirts for $52 at all studios nationwide, and is donating more than 50 percent of the proceeds to Bright Pink.
4. Beach Party
We spoke with Hayden Reis founder, Emily Stroud, a few weeks ago and she mentioned she would be unveiling a special bag this month. The ribbon wristlet is now out! And the sail-cloth, beach bag company will donate 25 percent of the proceeds from their pink collection to the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation. Hayden Reis products are currently available at our own Alene Too.
5. Honor A Survivor
Boca’s waterfront Wild Hare Salon and Spa is asking South Florida residents to nominate breast cancer survivors for a complimentary makeover. You can nominate yourself, a friend or family member. Nominations will close on Monday, October 15. Just e-mail email@example.com, providing your name and contact information, name of the nominee, age of the nominee, and the nominee’s contact information.
Wild Hare will then host a “Celebration of Life” event at their salon, on Sunday, Oct. 21, from 2 - 4 p.m., and three lucky nominees (selected at random) will unveil their beautiful makeovers.
We will keep you updated with more special initiatives around South Florida! Stay informed. Stay healthy and happy shopping!
