Dear Angela, my friend just entered an emotionally abusive relationship. She has the tendency to date guys that treat her badly. Last time I told her I didn’t think her boyfriend treated her well, she retorted that I was just jealous. How do I bring up the conversation again without her reacting the same way? – Just trying to be a good friend

Good Friend,

Do yourself a favor and stay out of this one. She didn’t ask for your opinion or advice.  If she does, you can give it, but remember your history on this topic. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me, right? Your friend has to make her own mistakes, and I know you’ve grown weary of picking up the pieces after these emotionally abusive relationships blow up, but guess what?  That’s what good friends do.  We listen, we console, and we keep our mouths shut when necessary.

Angela, I had been dating a girl on and off with every intention of making her my girlfriend. Every time I brought up the conversation, she said wasn’t ready for a relationship yet, so I finally gave up. Now, she’s the one running to me. Part of me wants to take her back, but my pride says otherwise. What should I do? – Conflicted

Dear Conflicted,

Stop with the ego and ask yourself the questions: Do you want this woman in your life?  Sometimes people aren’t ready on our timeframes.  You have to be willing to look at the place you are right now- forget about what happened in the past- and decide if you want to be with her.  If the answer is yes then drop the chest thumping and give it a go. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Good Luck.
