summer travel essentials

18 Crucial Summer Travel Essentials

Cover

Now that Memorial Day has passed, we’ve all got summer on the mind! This also means you’ve probably started looking into vacation spots. Whether you’re spending your summer vacation at your usual destination or plan on changing it up a bit this year, we’re here with the latest and greatest summer travel essentials of 2017.

Carry It On

Due to a serious problem with “over packing” we have yet to carry a bag onto a flight. We’re still trying to master that art, but thanks to the research we have done for this blog post, we think that this summer will be the one! Here’s how we plan on doing it:

Travel Bottles

Leak Proof Travel Bottles

Bring your favorite shower and beauty products on the go with you without worrying about them leaking or taking up too much space.

Happy Travels

Philosophy Happy Travels Set

Bring one of our favorite product lines with you on-the-go. These travel friendly skincare essentials are LLScene-approved.

Foldable Flats

Kate Spade Foldable Flats

Shoes can be the biggest culprits of them all when it comes to taking up too much space in your suitcase. These are fashionable and conserve space in your suitcase for more of your favorite things!

Squishee Packable Fedora Sun Hat

Squishee Packable Fedora Sun Hat

Hats can be one of the hardest things to pack. This fedora is one of our favorites because it can be crushed and crumpled into a suitcase or beach bag, then pop right back into place as if nothing happened. This hat is key for the summer.

Screen Shot 2017-06-02 at 12.07.16 PM

Traveler’s Choice Rome 20 in. Hardside Rolling Carry-On

It is lightweight and durable under the most intense travel conditions making it easy and convenient to lift and lower off a plane.

Converse

Converse Sneakers

If you don’t have a pair of these yet, you’re truly missing out. If you’re like us, you hate to have your bare feet exposed while walking through security. It’s more comfortable to have close-toed shoes when traveling anyways. There’s no need to ruin that vacation pedicure if you don’t have to. Another perk about our Converse? They’re easy to repack if you’re looking to conserve space in your carry on.

Kids are a Trip!

Traveling with children. For two late 20 somethings without children, this statement sounds pretty terrifying. Luckily, we have local mommy bloggers and resources at our fingertips to help keep our Boca Raton families organized and stress free while traveling this year. Here are some of our favorite products we came across while doing research on the newest and most convenient travel products for families.

gb Pockit Stroller

gb Pockit Stroller

Perfect for traveling families because it’s self standing when folded, small, and strong. You can switch from pushing the stroller to carrying it within seconds.

HDE Shock Proof iPad Case for Kids

HDE Shock Proof iPad Case for Kids

A shock proof iPad case is key for traveling with kids. We may not be moms (yet), but we know how to instantly calm down a fussy child: give them the iPad. That being said, having that beloved iPad shatter is the last thing you want to happen while traveling.

245361_40423_41

L.L. Bean Personal Organizer Toiletry Bag

In our opinion, one of the most useful toiletry bags out there. The pockets are in the most convenient places you can think of. This bag is water resistant with a built-in hook allowing you to hang it anywhere on your travels.

Babyganics Alcohol-Free Hand Sanitizing Wipes

Babyganics Alcohol-Free Hand Sanitizing Wipes

The essential of all essentials. You don’t leave your house without sanitizing wipes, so you certainly don’t want to travel without them.

Lumiere Waterproof Diaper Changing Pad 2

Lumiere Waterproof Diaper Changing Pad

You don’t want to leave for vacation without a sanitary and “travel friendly” diaper changing pad. The Lumiere Diaper Changing Pad comes with a bonus wipes dispenser and built in head cushion.

Fochier Luggage Carry on Spinner Set 2 Piece with 4 Double Wheels

Fochier Luggage Carry on Spinner Set 2 Piece with 4 Double Wheels

Hard shell luggage is key for durability and longevity. We’ve all seen the videos of luggage being manhandled by aircraft employees, so it’s worth it to invest in luggage that will last not only through your summer travel plans, but for years to come.

Fun in the Sun

On to the fun category! Here are some of our favorite beach vacay essentials that will make the walk from your beach house to the beach that much easier and convenient!

Rio Gear Ultimate Backpack Chair with Cooler

Rio Gear Ultimate Backpack Chair with Cooler

One of the worst parts about walking to the beach is carrying your beach chair. Instead of trying to convince someone else to carry it for you, buy the Rio Gear Ultimate Backpack Chair with Cooler. It’s a lightweight chair, which includes a cooler that can be carried as a backpack from one point to the other.

Beach Towel

Ban.do Vacation Beach Towel

Terry cloth oversized towel, keyword: oversized. This 70in x 40in towel is stylish and convenient because it comes with a belly band. Imagine the photo opportunities!

Glitter Bomb Water Bottle

Glitter Bomb Water Bottle

Stay hydrated and stylish with this adorable water bottle. You will be the talk of the beach.

Floats

Floats

No beach or poolside vacay is complete without one of the trendiest essentials of the summer—POOL FLOATS! If you’re looking for a one-stop-shop for your floating needs, Target is the place to go.

Neutrogena Beach Defense

Neutrogena Beach Defense

Our end all be all in sun protection skincare. This solution will feel light against your skin without clogging your pores and leaving long lasting damage.

Personalized Large Tote

Personalized Large Utility Tote

This large tote can be monogrammed with your name or initials, along with the type of font and color you want the tote to come in. Our favorite part about this tote is that it can be used all summer long and transition easily into future seasons.

Adolfo Domínguez opens at Town Center

retrato-adolfo

“The way we dress is a part of the person we show others,” said renowned Spain-based fashion designer Adolfo Domínguez. “We wear the map of our lives etched upon our features. Clothing as a second skin.”

This idea, complimented by design principles of beauty, poetry and simplicity, are the foundation for Domínguez’s brand-new boutique at the Town Center mall in Boca Raton. It’s only the second store to open in the United States and highlights the designer’s 2016 Fall/Winter Collection for men and women.

“ … We are very excited to bring our second boutique to Boca Raton as the social and holiday season begins,” said Domínguez.

For women, Domínguez returned to casual and functional looks, which is the core nature of the brand. Clothes are colored in shades of light gray, camel, military green, black, navy and pale pink, among others.

Garments range from stylish to staples, including capes, Spencer jackets, long waistcoats, pinafores and more. A touch of English inspiration is visible through Prince of Wales check, Harris tweed and herringbone fabrics. Necklines, sleeves and hemlines are asymmetrical.

For men, Domínguez looked at artistic and bohemian trends for inspiration. These themes are visible in pants and tailored garments.

Navy, khaki and burgundy earth tones are juxtaposed with shades of white, gray, indigo, white and sky blue for menswear. The ‘50s and ‘70s make a nostalgic appearance, too, via collarless shirts and knitted fabrics.

Shoes and accessories are available for men and women along with fragrances and eyewear.

The Adolfo Domínguez brand plans to open another boutique in Brickell City Centre in Miami in the upcoming weeks.

Fashion Exclusives at Bloomingdales Boca Raton

Alert the media, Bloomingdales Boca Raton has the hottest, most popular styles of the season, and LLScene was there for an exclusive look! We covered some of our favorite fall styles in a recent blog post, but want to share even more with you today.

The amazing staff at Bloomingdales Boca Raton hosted your favorite local fashion bloggers for a morning of brunch, champagne and fall fashion. Here’s what you should be wearing this season…

Bomber Jackets

Bomber jackets took over the runway during New York Fashion Week in February. We know what you’re thinking: when will I ever be able to wear a bomber jacket in this heat? Lucky for you, Kim Kardashian started the trend of wearing jackets and coats over her shoulders, so you never miss an opportunity to wear one of fall’s hottest trends.

The Camera Bag

One of our favorite Bloomingdales’ exclusives is the Camera Bag. The small size will complement any look you’re going for, but also have enough room for the necessary essentials you need to bring for a night out on the town. Bring on your hairbrush and press powder!

Sweats

Give us stylish comfort and we’re on board. Because of our South Florida climate, we understand that this may be another trend that’s hard to implement into your wardrobe, but hear us out. With the help of casual sweater dresses, you can totally embrace it. Sweats have been given the style seal of approval in NYC, and we’re taking advantage of it. Hoodies are the new go-to layering piece, paired perfectly with heels, booties and over-the-knee boots. Give us more opportunities to lampshade, we’re in.

Choker Necklaces

Another trend we covered last week, but still a favorite. Before they started trending in the 90s, chokers were the necklace of choice in the Victorian era, making 2016 their third comeback. Stack them on your neck or pair them with a bomber jacket and you’re a walking talking fashion statement.

The Red Lip

Gone are the days of not being able to pull off red lips. Don’t lie to yourself, we’ve all said it. The lip forecast for fall calls for versatile hues, perfect for any skin type. It allows for the perfect accent to any of the most popular styles of fall. Trust yourself and embrace it. We know you want to…

Dior Rouge Dior Couture Lip Color from Satin to Matte, Rouge Dior Collection

Yves Saint Laurent Star Clash Limited Edition Rouge Pur Couture

Tom Ford Ultra Rich Lip Color

The Statement Booty

There’s nothing we love more than a statement booty. Dress it up or dress it down, you can rock a booty at all times. Cropped denim blew up last season, which opened up the opportunity for booties to really make a debut. Think buckles, leopard prints, sparkles, and silk. You can pair these with edge leather leggings, denim or a midi dress.

Sam Edelman Taye Mid Heel Booties

Cole Haan Booty

Kenneth Cole Leopard Booty

Velvet

As you know, track is back at Bloomingdales, so channel your inner Elle Woods and revamp your Juicy Couture wardrobe. In addition to track being back, so is velvet! This is lending a whole new meaning to feeling your look. Soft, luxe velvet is EVERYWHERE. Feel free to rock velvet in dark tones or soft hues because this trend is here to stay. Insider tip: Velvet looks its best when it catches the light!

Sam Edelman Reema Velvet d’Orsay Pointed Toe Flats – 100% Bloomingdale’s Exclusive

J Brand Velvet Skinny Jeans 100% Bloomingdales Exclusive

Juicy Couture Velour Track Suit 100% Bloomingdales Exclusive

We hope this post gave you insight into what you should and shouldn’t be wearing this fall. It’s also important to note that a majority of these looks are exclusive to Bloomingdales, which means you’ll be the hottest trendsetter of the season!

Nordstrom Beauty Trend Week: Allison and Portia’s Top Picks

It’s that time of year again: Nordstrom Beauty Trend Week is in full swing at Town Center mall. Although the event started Sept. 16, it continues until the 24.Boca Mag sent us to Nordstrom’s early this week to check things out, and there’s a ton of great products and activities. Plus, you can sign up for skincare and beauty consultations. Here are our top 5 picks for this year:

Yves Saint Laurent Mon Paris Eau de Parfum, 3 oz., $122

Ladies, put this one at the top of your holiday wish list. Both Portia and I loved this warm floral perfume. The Datura flower is one of the strongest aspects of the fragrance, which gives it a sensual yet sophisticated style. Hints of pear, jasmine sambac, raspberry, white musk and white peony add a soft element. Sa-woon.

MAC’s Little $10 Display (items all $10/ea.)

Who doesn’t like high-quality makeup options, especially at reasonable prices? This “bargain tree,” so to speak, was something I liked because it gives consumers the ability to try new products without breaking the bank. Look for a new shade of lipstick to wear out this weekend. Try a new mascara or pick up some cleansing facial wipes. The options are endless and make great stocking stuffers, too.

Bodega Venetta Knot Eau de Parfum, 75ml, $160

Someone sprayed this as they walked past us, and I had to know what it was. Not only is the design simply elegant, but so is the fragrance. Clementine, lavender, rose and peony blend to create a floral scent that conjures memories of summers overseas. Wear it when you want to leave a lasting impression, or for a wonderful evening out.

Classic Maison Candel in Prosecco Bellini, Voluspa, $29

Portia really has this thing for scents. (Ok, we both do a little.) But she REALLY has a thing for candles—Voluspa candles, actually. Nordstrom has a great selection of them, and when we found the display, it was hard to pass up. Her favorite candle is the Prosecco Bellini: 12 ounces of coconut wax with evidence of peaches, apricots and sparkly Prosecco. It’s perfect for the in the kitchen or the outdoor patio.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream, 1.7 oz., $27.50

This 24-hour moisturizing cream is great for a variety of skin types and can be applied in the morning or at night. It’s light, has a clean scent and leaves skin soft and smooth after regular application.  Make this a part of your regular skincare routine.

Fashion Forward: Miami-Based Swimwear

South Florida is known worldwide for its beautiful, endless beaches and year-round summer weather. While the internet has given tourists and snowbirds the inside secrets to all the best restaurants, hotels and beaches, there are a few things only true South Floridians are “in-the-know” about—one of them being where to get the best and trendiest local swimwear.

Poema Swim

Poema Swim is like the coveted music festival style transformed into swimwear. From earthy-toned stripes to geometric patterns with a hint of color, these bikinis bring out the bohemian chic within you. Prices range from $60-$80, and the tops and bottom are sold separately so you can mix and match as you please.

Killer Ivy Swimwear

Killer Ivy Swimwear doesn’t shy away from colorful patterns and strappy designs. Made in Brazil, the swimwear emulates the intricate details and flamboyant colors that are prominent on the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. Not to mention the cut outs and straps on each bikini that give the swimwear a unique touch. These bikinis are meant for you to party like a true Brazilian. Prices range from $20-$40 for one pieces, two pieces and cover-ups.

Montce Swim

If you love printed bikinis, this swimwear is perfect for you! Beautifully made and designed, Montce Swim is like no other. Ranging from prints like snakeskin, peacock feathers and Aztec patterns, these bikinis will make you feel one with nature. Montce also has a knack for detail and incorporating sexy straps, ruffles and colorful tassels in many of the bikinis. Ranging from $50-$100, these swimsuits are worth the price.

About Shellie

Shellie Frai is a sophomore at the University of Florida studying Journalism and Public Relations, who is interning at Boca Magazine this summer. She lives her life according to the three f’s: fashion, food, and family. However, sometimes she might say that fashion feeds her mind more than family and food. You can reach Shellie at [email protected], but if she doesn’t respond, it’s because she’s laying on a beach somewhere.

Fashion Forward: Olympic Couture

For all the fashionistas, watching our favorite athletes win gold medals at the 2016 Olympics (Aug. 5-21) isn’t nearly as exciting if we don’t look like winners too. Ditch those tacky, over-the-top team name T-shirts for this year’s chic and subtle Olympic-ready outfits. Whether you’re cheering from home or all the way in Rio, these Olympic essentials will make you feel like you’re standing on the first-place podium.

1. Don’t shy away from your competitive side. Cheer for America with these Team USA Havianas. The American red and blue keeps things spirited—so does the American flag detail on the strap. Plus, Havianas originated from Brazil, which makes them the perfect shoe for this year’s Rio Olympics. $26, Havianas, zappos.com.

2. The Team USA T-shirt dress is festive, comfortable and trendy. The red and blue label makes the dress a great choice for not only the Olympics, but for any other time of the year. Pair it with some cute Keds, and you’re all set. $78, Polo Ralph Lauren, bloomingdales.com.

3. Unlike other team shirts, this colorful Brasil 2016 ringer T-shirt can hold its own. The rainbow lettering and singular globe and motto makes the team shirt less patriotic and more casual.

I love the blue borders on the neck and arms because it gives the shirt a simple Olympic touch. $34, Urban Outfitters, urbanoutfitters.com.

4. This “Go for the Gold” graphic tee is the perfect shirt for watching the Olympics with your friends. While everyone else is wearing flashy team shirts, you’ll stand out without even trying. $22.94, Old Navy, oldnay.gap.com.

5. Stay cool and fashionable while you work out (or hang out). The seamless Lycra fabric allows you to stay comfortable as you watch the games on the edge of your seat. The bra comes in blue for USA or green for Brazil. $48, LuluLemon Athletica, shop.lululemon.com.

6. Not into Olympic-themed clothing? No worries. Show your stripes with this cute Team USA pin. It’s perfect for on a scarf, jacket or even the strap of a cross-over bag. $8.99, Team USA Shop, teamusashop.com.

The Sunglass Lowdown

Summer sun means one thing: sunglasses. It’s difficult for me to wander through a department store without somehow finding myself in the sunglass section. It’s impossible to ignore all of the fun shapes, colors, styles and designers.

It’s time to say goodbye to your old, boring frames, and hello to a new, funky pair—the funkier the better. Of course, as with any type of fashion, you can pay top dollar for the hottest designers, or find great inexpensive pairs on a budget. We break down nine prominent sunglass styles and offer varying price points for each.

The Cat-eye Style. Cat-eye sunglasses are nothing new, but as the style evolves, so does the popularity. Cat-eye glasses are my personal favorite; the look is flattering on almost every face.

Pictured:

Fendi, $465

Dior, $430

The Round Style. Round sunglasses can be tricky to pull off. I’ve tried, and sometimes I feel like I’m wearing Harry Potter glasses. But the round style has become more versatile. There are more shapes, ranging from the classic perfect circle to a more rounded square. With all the varying spherical shapes, you’ll be able to find a pair that works with your face.

Pictured:

Prada, $335

Illesteva, $177

The Aviator Style. Aviators have always been a popular choice for sunglasses. The classic style looks good on almost everyone.

Pictured:

Dior, $555

Ray Ban, $175

The Mirrored Style. Mirrored lenses have gained a lot of fame recently—you can find plenty of celebrities rocking this trend. Maybe the point of these super-reflective lenses is to be nice by offering a constant mirror to your friends, or maybe they’re made to make you seem less approachable. Whatever the case may be, you can find the mirror lenses in numerous frames and shapes.

Pictured:

Chanel, $375

Versace, $280

The Reinforced Bridge Style. Glasses with reinforced bridges became popular with Dior’s “So Real” collection. However, the style has grown exponentially through different designers’ variations on the look.

Pictured:

Dior, $560

Prada, $385

The Wayfarer/ Square Style. The wayfarer look is the classic Ray-Ban look, but it’s been adopted by many different designers, each adding his or her own variation. Although the wayfarer is already pretty square, other square styles have stemmed from the original look. Wayfarers look good on most faces, but squares—like the circle style—can be difficult to pull of, so I advise trying these on before purchasing.

Pictured:

Ray Ban, $150

The Funky Frames Style. Frames can be fun to play around with. If you don’t like some of the classic shapes mention above, try out something new and wild. There are many different geometric styles to choose from. Whether you’re into the scuba goggle look, the tanning-bed tiny oval shape or the extremely oversized look, you’ll be sure to find the glasses you’re looking for from many popular designers. While it may be easier to find the wilder glasses online, I suggest trying on that funky pair before splurging.

Pictured:

Chanel, $525

Grey Ant, $345

The Colored Frames/ Lens Style. Another trend, aside from funky-shaped frames, is colored frames. Plain black and tortoise are boring—try on a classic pair with a splash of color. If you’d rather stick to a neutral frame, colored lenses are also popular.

Pictured:

Illesteva, $220

Diff Eyewear, $50

The Frameless Style. Frameless glasses can be seen more and more today. They’ve been made popular by celebrities and are becoming increasingly in vogue in everyday life. The look can make some people hesitate when purchasing, but they come in so many different shapes that once you try on that perfect pair, you’ll be obsessed, too.

Fashion Forward: Versakini x House of Perna

LLScene is back from Miami Swim week with a full bikini wardrobe. We couldn’t be happier for our long time friends, Kelsey Duffy of Versakini and Amanda Perna of House of Perna for launching and showcasing Versakini x Amanda Perna.

Versakini, with countless combinations and versatility, unveiled their 2017 collection submerged in bold prints and radiant hues. The runway event, drawing prime industry members, media and Ivy League standouts, commandeered the W South Beach this evening with incomparable design.

Versakini is a hip, interchangeable swimwear line that focuses on the dynamic female spirit. Birthed by Shark Tank Alum Kelsey Duffy, Versakini has teamed up with lead designer and former Project Runway star Amanda Perna. Versakini’s incomparable Spring Summer 2017 collection showcased Perna’s vibrant spirit and incredible creativity.

Crowds hoot and hollered as modern songs streamed through the venue by a talented DJ and electric violinist. Lights dimmed in the packed house to reveal perfectly tanned models in bright neon and playful printed swimsuits. Colorful tie-dyes and stripes made a statement under spotlights accompanied by impeccably styled pom pom straw beach totes and glitter lipstick. Flirty kimonos and sheer mermaid pants flushed the runway. Versakini’s 2017 collection will launch the first interchangeable one-piece, which hit the catwalk in numerous prints and colors.

Versakini provides a fun and simple way for women to express their dynamic personalities by mixing, matching and interchanging pieces of the Versakini collection to create the perfect look or to try a fresh style.

“I am inspired by life. By people, music, nature and color. I strive to create clothing that is unique, impactful and makes a statement. I believe fashion should be fun and not take itself too seriously. I value clothing that encompasses many fundamentals of design but most importantly, color and texture.” – Designer, Amanda Perna
