Cuban Flora in Remote Areas with Jorge Sánchez

February 1, 2018 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Renowned landscape gardener Jorge Sánchez will present an illustrated lecture on plants found in the western mountain regions of Cuba, specifically in the province of Pinar del Rio. Sánchez, whose exiled family came from Cuba to Palm Beach in 1959, is half of the duo behind SMI Landscape Architecture of Palm Beach. They were the green team behind the Worth Avenue makeover and helped the Garden Club of Palm Beach create the “living wall” at 150 Worth Avenue.

Under Sánchez’s leadership, SMI maintains a philosophy which incorporates a “botanical garden” approach fused with the historic and classical formal garden design framework. Their work received The Arthur Ross Award, and several of their designs have been published in many national magazines, as well as in their book, “The Civilized Jungle.” Jorge has dedicated many years to zoning and architectural boards for the Town of Palm Beach. He has recently been elected a director of The Garden Conservancy.
