Three high-profile local eateries have failed to hang on through the off-season and have gone the way of all perishable food items.

Probably best known is Todd English and Lirim Jacobi’s Wild Olives Cafe in CityPlace, which has vacated the space formerly held by Italian Oven Cafe. A sign on the door (and the restaurant’s website) says the closure is only temporary and that it will be relocating, which is actually true about as often as it snows in Miami. But who knows? Maybe this time will be the exception. I wouldn’t unpack my winter coat just yet, though.

Also gone are a pair of restaurants on Delray’s brutally competitive Atlantic Avenue. Blue Fish, the sleek, uber-trendy sushi and seafood house, has disappeared into Davey Jones’ locker. Apparently months of promos, parties and specials couldn’t put enough butts in seats. Sonoma Cafe & Bistro is history too. No word on why any of the trio shut down, but then no one in the restaurant biz really likes to talk about failures.
