Just a short hop or sail from South Florida, The Abaco Club in The Bahamas feels a world away in the best possible sense.

The transition is almost immediate.

Shoulders drop.

Time slows.

The noise fades.

Set on 500 acres between gently swaying palms and brilliant Bahamian blues, The Abaco Club isn’t about packing in experiences (although there are plenty!). It’s about giving yourself permission to pause.

The author, Paige Kornblue, at The Abaco Club

The Abaco Club is a private members’ community and one that offers the kind of “home away from home” many of us dream about. It’s aspirational without being flashy, refined without being rigid, and thoughtfully designed for those seeking both connection and calm. For those whose timing and circumstances align, it’s also a place to put down roots—whether for a weekend, season of the year, season of life or for the long term.

A limited number of ownership opportunities are available across several distinct neighborhoods, including beachfront and golf-front homes. Touring the residences made it clear these are not houses meant to sit empty. They’re designed for real living: morning coffee on wide verandas, open-air rooms that invite the breeze, windows that frame the ocean like art, and spaces that feel both luxurious and really, really comfortable.

Day one for me started with a massage at my weekend abode—Heaven on Earth—perched on the cliff overlooking the ocean. Another morning began with yoga by the water. Later, we ventured to the Abaco Yacht Club & Marina, setting sail on a day cruise to nearby Firefly Restaurant. The experience felt quintessentially Bahamian: open water, spontaneous swimming stops, and the best ocean breezes.

The newly-opened Bay Club serves as the social heart of the community, featuring a resort-style infinity pool, beachfront bar, hot tub, cinema, game room, boutique, cigar lounge, and an adults-only member lounge. The Stables will soon expand the club’s racquet offerings with new tennis and padel courts, a pro shop, a three-acre park, and a peaceful fishing pond.

A few highlights worth noting:

  • #1 Ranked Golf Course in The Bahamas, a Scottish-style tropical links designed by Donald Steel and Tom Mackenzie; El Diablo, a new Darren Clarke putting sourse
  • Home to The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic (Korn Ferry Tour) Jan. 18-21
  • Two-mile uninterrupted white sand beach
  • Multiple dining destinations, from toes-in-the-sand tacos to sunset dinners
  • Full-service spa, wellness and fitness center
  • Tennis, pickleball, padel, basketball, and expansive sports fields
  • Take some swings at the Wake Field where whiffle ball, kickball, and all-turf games bring out the inner child in everyone
  • Watersports galore: snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, kite surfing, boating, and world-class fishing
  • Marina and luxury yachts for cruising and island-hopping
  • Variety of children’s programming and family-friendly spaces
  • Marsh Harbor International Airport is just a 25 minute drive from the property

What ultimately sets The Abaco Club apart isn’t just its amenities or its setting. It’s the feeling that life here is intentionally slower, richer, and more connected. And sometimes, the greatest luxury of all is discovering a place that reminds you how good it feels to simply be.

The Abaco Club offers a variety of membership options, including resident and non-resident opportunities, with reciprocal privileges at other Southworth properties around the world.
