Dolly Parton was a bitty lady with a big voice and quippy comebacks, but she was also known for her advocacy and charity, especially when it came to literacy.
The local chapter of her Imagination Library nonprofit, which sends free books to children, is hosting a series of fundraisers in honor of the late singer-songwriter and actress, who died Aug. 25 at the age of 80.
In honor of Give Like Dolly Day on Sept. 25, events include:
Kendra Scott Shopping Event, Sept. 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Kendra Scott at Town Center Mall, 6000 Glades Road in Boca Raton, and The Gardens Mall, 3101 PGA Blvd. in Palm Beach Gardens. Shop for a cause, with 20 percent of your purchase being donated to the Imagination Library.

Parton’s Imagination Library began in 1995 in her home county in Tennessee. Today, it serves children across the United States and has provided hundreds of millions of books to little readers. Children who are a part of the program are sent a free book every month until the age of 5, when they receive a letter from Parton wishing them luck as they embark on kindergarten.
In Palm Beach County, more than 1,400 children are enrolled in the program, and 39,811 books have been gifted to area children.
