To the small number of local restaurants that offer the Japanese hibachi experience, add West Boynton’s new Sawa Hibachi Steakhouse & Sushi (10817 S. Jog Rd., 561-375-9292).
Proprietor and New York restaurateur Jacky Chen (he also owns Ginza Japanese Restaurant there) opened the contemporary, 150-seat eatery in the Shoppes of Woolbright earlier this year. It boasts eight hibachi tables that seat nine diners apiece, each featuring its own hibachi chef, plus the now-obligatory sushi bar.
The extensive menu features a variety of both maki and nigiri sushi, as well as tempura, several teriyaki and noodle dishes, stir-fries and specialties like sea bass with XO cognac sauce.
Hibachi items include chicken, steak, fish and shellfish, which come with appetizer, rich and two sauces for between $16 to $28 (for lobster). There’s also a weekly lunch special with prices ranging from $9 to $12.
