If (like me) you miss the killer white clam pizza and other New Haven-style pies that Nick Laudano used to dish at Nick’s Apizza, his now-shuttered downtown Lake Worth pizzeria, you can start licking your lips again, as Laudano and partner Anthony Giovanniello will open Nick’s New Haven-Style Pizzeria and Bar in Boca’s Glades Plaza come early July.
The pizzas are still apizzas (pronounced, Ah-BEETZ), which is to say thin-crusted, often oblong or oval, and blistered from a fiery hot oven. But the pizzeria itself is a good deal bigger and grander than the stylish but small Lake Worth eatery.
Designed by Fort Lauderdale’s Karen Hanlon, who also did Racks Downtown Eatery + Tavern and Table 42, among other local restaurants, the new Nick’s will celebrate the era in which the New Haven pie was born, with a 1940s-inspired kitchen pantry, ceiling papered with period advertising, to-go window and indoor bar that flows into an outdoor patio.
On the food side, the 18-inch pies will come out of brick ovens hand-crafted by Laudano and nicknamed “The Dragon.†All the traditional types of pizzas will be offered, including the signature white clam pizza, as well as house-made cheesecake, wraps, panini, salads and a weekly pasta special.
