Forget the old “roach coach.” Today a new breed of food truckers selling four-wheeled cuisine with an upscale twist are the hottest thing in dining since the invention of appetite.

But with the exception of a handful of gourmet truckers (Curbside Gourmet in West Palm, Porky & Beth’s and Rolling Stove at Bedner’s Market), the trend has pretty much passed us by.

No longer, at least if Jochen Esser has anything to say about it. The Boca Raton Internet marketing executive has put together a roster of some of SoFla’s best food trucks, which will set up shop and introduce local diners to their now furiously trendy brand of low-cost, high-end, thoroughly unpretentious dining at the Gourmet Truck Expo, set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, at Boomers entertainment center in Boca Raton.

Modeled after food truck round-ups in major cities throughout the country, including Miami, the Expo will feature (so far) more than 15 different food trucks (and one cigar truck), including such well-known truckers as Nacho Mama’s, Red Koi and MisoHungry. Newbies like Wiseguys and Caza Paninis will be making their local debut.
