It’s not even October 31st, yet we’re deep into “fall” if you look at the rest of our nation’s temperatures. Boca moms eagerly await this season each year only to realize (yet again) that our scorching weather is sadly not conducive to things like pumpkin spice lattes…or pumpkin patches for that matter. (I mean, have you ever visited Bedner’s in early October? SO MISERABLY HOT!)

We even have to be careful about what Halloween costumes we choose for ourselves and our kids, so as to not spend every outdoor festival sweating through the fleece onesie we thought would be adorable in-store. Even so, the one event that I plan costumes meticulously for is Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World.

If you’ve never attended, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a special after-hours ticketed event guaranteed to make boo-tiful memories for your family. With trick-or-treating throughout Magic Kingdom Park and tons of entertainment, it’s definitely one of my favorites. The crowds are much smaller and if you’re smart, you’ll get to the park a few hours prior to the 7:00 p.m. start time (Not So Scary tickets allow you into the park as early as 4:00) to maximize the experience.

But like South Florida, Orlando’s weather can be…unpredictable. It can easily be in the low 70’s one evening only to rise to the high 80’s the next. A mom must plan her family’s Not So Scary wardrobe accordingly! I decided not to chance sweating more than I had to at Disney’s Media Preview Night this year and try something called “Disneybounding” for the first time. Because no parent wants to be uncomfortable while walking Magic Kingdom for 5+ hours—trust me!

For those unfamiliar, Disneybounding is a subtler, more fashion-forward way to show your love for Disney. Instead of wearing full-on costumes, Disneybounders dress up in stylish, everyday outfits (known as Disneybounds) that are inspired by a particular character. Our choice for this year? A combination of the animated and live-action Aladdin movies. I think we nailed it…

Some top eerie entertainment highlights during Not So Scary evenings include:

  • Mickey’s “Boo-to-You” Halloween Parade – Led by the Headless Horseman, Disney characters dress up for the occasion and ghostly floats bring the frights and sounds of the season to Main Street, U.S.A. and other Magic Kingdom viewing locations.
  • NEW! Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular—Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas tells a not-so-scary tale about Mickey Mouse and his pals on a Halloween night where anything can happen. Expect Cinderella’s Castle to be drenched in dazzling fireworks, projections and lasers throughout the show.
  • NEW! Disney Descendance Party—Having a 6 year-old, there was no way we could skip dancing with our favorite Villain Kids from the popular movie The Descendants. Fun, games and even surprise “VK” shoutouts happen as you dance the night away!

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party starts in mid-August and runs through November 1st. Be sure to grab your tickets while you still can! Let’s boo this!
