For the first time, the City of Delray Beach is inviting residents and business owners to take part in its inaugural Citizens’ Academy.

At this five-week course, participants will get a deep dive into the inner workings of the city, including the roles of city departments and how they keep Delray Beach running.

“We look forward to giving residents and business owners an insider’s look at how our local government runs and introducing them to the various city leaders,” City Manager Terrence Moore said in a press release. “I believe our Citizens’ Academy will benefit both participants and the city by building trust, educating attendees, and providing city leaders with valuable feedback from our stakeholders.”

The academy is free and includes five, three-hour courses on Friday evenings starting on Oct. 18. Participants will take part in a graduation presentation during the Nov. 19 Delray Beach City Commision meeting at City Hall.

Registrants must be at least 18 years old and be a Delray Beach resident or own a business in the city. The deadline to register is Sept. 3 and 25 students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
