One of the most highly anticipated fundraisers of the season is just one week away when The Boca Raton will welcome more than 1,300 guests donning all shades of pink in the fight against breast cancer.
The Annual Go Pink Luncheon has grown into one of South Florida’s largest women’s health events, a concerted effort between the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation and the community. This year marks the inspiring luncheon’s 20th anniversary and to commemorate this important milestone, the committee’s chair, Carrie Rubin, created something special and unique with Couture for a Cure Bras with a Cause showcasing bras designed and hand-made by both local and internationally-renowned designers.
“I wanted to create something special and unique for the 20th anniversary. Seeing some decorative bras online sparked the idea for this year,” says Rubin.

Couture for a Cure Bras with a Cause has been a one-year project for Rubin and her committee. It’s one thing to have a great idea, but it’s another to put it into action. However, if you’re lucky enough to know Rubin, then you know she is quite the convincing leader. She hit the ground running, using her contacts in the fashion world to secure big names including Carolina Herrera, Cinq à Sept, L’Agence, and Lela Rose among others. A few bras were made by jewelry designers and the already-sold bra by Loree Rodkin showcasing drapings of diamonds and pearls was appraised at $18,250.
“It was also important to us to embrace our local talented community including the students at Lynn University whose bra is a sculptural masterpiece,” says Rubin.

Michelle Farmer, the founder and designer behind Michelle Farmer Collaborate and Michelle Farmer Design, instantly said “yes” when asked to design a bra. Not all bras are pink, but Farmer used pink to represent “femininity, love and compassion” and gold detailing to symbolize “success, achievement and triumph.” As for celebrated fashion designer, Project Runway alumni and entrepreneur Amanda Perna, she hand-made a quintessentially House of Perna design featuring lace from France, sequins and tulle as a “tribute to the brave women I’ve admired and the compassionate community that stands beside them.”
“Opening each bra or seeing them for the first time was like opening a birthday present,” says Rubin. “I absolutely love each one.” At present, the 16 couture bras are available to bid online and Go Pink attendees will have a chance to see them on display at the luncheon next Friday, Oct. 18.

This project is a tribute to all survivors and the money raised will be used to fund the incredible initiatives and programs at the Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute and the Christine E. Lynn Women’s Health & Wellness Institute/Schmidt Family Center for Breast Care at Boca Raton Regional Hospital.
“It was a project of love and all the designers were incredible and made each bra with purpose and love,” says Rubin.
Cheers to making a huge impact with grace, style and creativity.
