As Boca Raton’s centennial year comes to a close, a new piece of public art was revealed Tuesday evening: the newly painted doors of the Mizner Park Amphitheater stage.

Created by artist Brian Butler, the mural was a collaboration between the City of Boca Raton and O, Miami, which has partnered with the city throughout the year on various centennial programming. Butler has worked with the likes of the Miami Heat, Florida Panthers, the Beach Towel Art Show, Pure Honey, Miami New Times, Subtropic Film Festival, and murals across the country.

The large-scale piece, using oranges and other earth tones, is an Ode to Boca with Easter eggs from around town and history. This includes a golfer, sea turtle, owl, Johnny Brown the monkey, the Shriners camel, a pineapple from the Morikami plantation, classic Boca Raton Spanish Revival architecture, a vintage sunbather reminiscent of Bettie Page and more.

Butler designed the mural based on poetry submitted to the city during its Ode to Boca poetry contest.
