Hosting SNL and the premiere of her film “Wicked” didn’t stop Ariana Grande from making a trip back home to celebrate with her grandmother.
In her Instagram stories Monday, she shared, “Flew back to Boca for a day to watch with Nonna…at the movie theatre I grew up going to every weekend, Cinemark 20 in Boca.”
Grande stars in “Wicked,” which hit theaters on Nov. 22, based on the smash Broadway musical (based on the 1995 book that’s based on “The Wizard of Oz,” phew) that takes viewers back to the school days of Glinda and Elphaba. Donning blonde hair with a pink getup, Grande plays the role of the upbeat Glinda, who befriends Elphaba (played by Cynthia Ervivo), who is ostracized for her green skin.

On her Instagram stories, Grande shared a photo of her grandmother seated between her and her older brother, Frankie Grande. In one video, she clutches her grandmother’s hand as they watch her perform “Popular” on the screen.
The singer and actress has been on a frenzied schedule promoting the film, including a stint hosting SNL in October. On the episode, she performed her infamous impressions of Celine Dion, Britney Spears and Gwen Stefani.
A Boca native, Grande attended North Broward Preparatory School while playing Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon show “Victorious” and its spinoff “Sam & Cat.” Her debut album “Yours Truly” was released in 2013.
Grande did an exclusive interview with Boca magazine in 2014—and the movie theater made her list of places she misses in town.
“I miss the beach, I miss Town Center, I miss Cinemark—which will always be Muvico in my heart,” she said. “I miss Boomers, I miss the Kabbalah Centre in Boca, I miss the Boca Beach Club, I miss my grandparents … I miss my home.”
