Ok, so even though I’m a die-hard Gator, I know a legend when I see one. And I have been in The Stadium Of The Enemy, The Doak Campbell of Broken Dreams, ruled over by the Coach Who Never Loses. I remember those days. That coach, the charismatic and inspirational Bobby Bowden, will be leading a prayer breakfast for the YMCA at the Boca Raton Resort & Club Wednesday March 9 at 7:30 a.m.
The Y’s annual prayer breakfast will have a pep rally spirit as Bowden, the second winningest coach in major college football history, addresses his life on and off the gridiron. Bowden has recently had a book published, Called To Coach, and he is sought-after as a keynote speaker.
Last year the annual prayer breakfast had 500 people, and this year Bowden is expected to draw even more.
The YMCA serves more than 30,000 community residents annually; the renovated Peter Blum Family YMCA of Boca Raton marks the largest Y facility in Southeastern Florida. The organization allows all community members to participate in membership programs regardless of their ability to pay fees. In 2009, approximately $500,000 was given in scholarships that provided children and families in need the opportunity to participate in summer camps, active older adult programs, sports leagues and more.
It’s a good cause, and an event headlined by one of the great coaches of our time. To get your wake up call from Bobby Bowden, call Terri Evans at 561/237-0943. Tickets are $75.
