Who knew Boca Raton had so many poets? On Wednesday night, nonprofit O, Miami, hosted its Zip Odes Finale, where Boca was recognized as having made the most submissions in the 10-year history of the program.
Last year, the City of Boca Raton partnered up with O, Miami—a nonprofit dedicated to amplifying Miami’s creative voices and uniting the community through the power of poetry—to create a series of temporary billboards and arts installations around town showcasing residents’ five-line “odes” to Boca. The top 100 odes will be displayed throughout the city this summer in celebration of Boca’s centennial.
Boca residents, teachers and students attended the Zip Odes Finale at Miami’s Poetry Festival at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens to read their odes, with each line using the same number of syllables as the digits of the writer’s zip code. The most submissions came from the 33433 zip code with 236 odes, and Boca students and teachers combined submitted 433. Below are two submissions by local poets.
Local poets still have time to submit their odes to be considered for display. Submissions can be made here.
