Boca Raton fired its police chief and two deputy city managers Thursday in a major administrative shakeup two days after an election that reshaped the city council.

Police Chief Michele Miuccio had led the police department since April 2020. She rose through the ranks from patrol officer and spent almost four decades with the city. On Tuesday, voters rejected a proposal to issue up to $175 million in bonds for a new police station on Spanish River Boulevard.

Jorge Camejo and Chrissy Gibson also “departed,” according to a news release from the city. Each deputy manager had decades of service. Former City Manager George Brown brought Camejo back to the city from a high-level position in Hollywood to oversee downtown. In two years, the council must write new rules for downtown redevelopment.

Assistant Police Chief Elizabeth Roberts will lead the department during what the release called a “transition.” She has been with the department since 2005.

The shakeup leaves Boca Raton with two deputy managers, Andy Lukasik and James Zervis. Lukasik led the staff effort on the Terra/Frisbie project that voters rejected Tuesday. Zervis is the chief financial officer.

According to the release, the city “conducted a review of its leadership structure” over the last five months—City Manager Mark Sohaney started in September—“to ensure it aligns with operational needs and long-term priorities … As a result, a realignment of the city manager’s executive team and a transition in leadership within the police department have taken place.”
