Her 2nd Chance is celebrating a major milestone for the nonprofit: paying $1,014,973 to women in recovery.
The Boca Raton-based nonprofit opened its doors in 2018, providing “transitional employment” to women, where they learn job skills that they can take with them into their next phase in life.
“This achievement is more than just a number—it’s a testament to the resilience of the women we serve and the power of employment and economic opportunity in the recovery journey,” Erin Sabin, executive director, said in a press release. “By providing employment and support, we are helping break cycles of addiction, relapse, and unemployment, one paycheck at a time.”
From their studio in Boca Raton, Her 2nd Chance creates custom gifts such as mugs, Christmas ornaments and magnets through an online storefront (customers can also purchase items in store). In the last seven years, sales have been able to create more than $1 million in wages for women participating in the program. Here, they also have access to honing their interview skills, creating resumes, learning leadership skills, and also finding community with women who are going through the same life changes as them. It’s all done in a positive, affirming environment led by mentors.
“Earning again feels great, but this job gave me more than money—it gave me purpose. Every dollar I earn reminds me that I’m rebuilding my life, one honest step at a time,” Audra Feinstein, who is participating in the Her 2nd Chance program, said in a press release.
