Festival of the Arts Boca this afternoon announced that Sergio Mendes’ headlining performance at the annual cultural gathering, scheduled for this Sunday, March 12, has been rescheduled to April 2 “due to illness.” The new date for the concert from the Brazilian pop legend will take place at the Carole and Barry Kaye Auditorium at Florida Atlantic University instead of the festival’s usual host venue, the Mizner Park Amphitheater.

This story is breaking, and this is the only information we have; we do not know the nature of the illness, or if it pertains to Mendes, who is 82, or anyone from his band, but we wish him and/or his tourmates a swift recovery.

The Festival continues with Fran Lebowitz tonight (Wednesday), author Charles Fishman on Thursday, jazz singer Nicole Henry on Friday, and the orchestral program “Scheherazade and Soloists” on Saturday. Visit the festival’s website for tickets and information.
