Work.

We often complain about it. Don’t always look forward to going. Often try to figure out when we can leave….

But what was it that got you there in the first place? What was the pull that led you to that field? The reason you’ve stayed?

There should be good days at the office. And those days and those moments are what Boca Raton artist Michelle Sherman spotlights in her watercolor portraits highlighting Boca Raton artists and entrepreneurs. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at some of us in our workspaces.

Me? Well, Sherman caught PK in action at the podcast studio recording The Paige Kornblue Show. Naturally, I then slid a microphone her way because while she created my story on canvas, I wanted to share hers on-air.

Sherman is a Boca Raton native, mother of two and A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts graduate who has been teaching art in local classrooms for years. She recently opened her own art studio within the BRiC complex after making waves from east to west Boca celebrating on canvas our city’s landscapes and people.

It was her “Window into Boca Raton” series that started it all as she and a friend stepped outside post-COVID to feature special locations and hidden gems in downtown Boca Raton. The series is now on display at the Spanish River Public Library and includes Sherman’s paintings of the Boca Raton Historical Society, Mizner Park’s “Flossy’s Fountain II,” a number of Boca Raton Museum of Art sculptures and Royal Palm Places’ “Peaceful Fountain.”

Also on display are several of Sherman’s artist & entrepreneur pieces featuring my fellow Boca magazine contributors Olivia Hollaus, founder of Protect My Shoes, and Michelle Olson-Rogers, founder of Modern Boca Mom. We also get a sneak peek inside the work world of Boca’s Cielito Artisan Pops’ owner and Delray Beach’s The House of Perna

Similar to photographic portraits, these watercolor paintings allow us all to pause and reflect on our own workspaces and professions, reminding us to value and appreciate the roles we play day in and day out.

To learn more or purchase Michelle Sherman art, look for this story in the Lifestyle or Boca Beat section of Paige Kornblue’s blog and listen to The Paige Kornblue Show podcast, Episode 54 to hear from Michelle as she sketched PK!
