Beginning today, Oct. 1, metered parking will be implemented at all free parking lots and garages near Atlantic Avenue from Swinton Avenue to the Intracoastal bridge.

The change is one of several made by the Delray Beach City Commission based on recommendations by the Curbside and Parking Management Plan, an initiative started in 2019 to manage parking and traffic near and along Atlantic Avenue.

Here are the downtown lots and garages that will be affected:

  • City garages (Old School Square, Robert Federspiel and 4th & 5th IPIC) will transition from free before 4 p.m. and on Sundays to $1.50/hour all day and all night.
  • Free parking lots near Atlantic Avenue (Railroad Lot, Gladiola Lot, Village Lot, and Veterans Park Lot) will now be metered at $2/hour with a four-hour limit from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday
  • Bankers Row Lot will now be metered at $2/hour with a four-hour limit from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Already metered side streets near Atlantic Avenue (NE/SE First, Second, Third, and Fourth Avenues) will increase from $2/hour to $3/hour. Side streets that are free will remain free for now.
  • Atlantic Avenue between Swinton Avenue and the Intracoastal bridge will remain $4/hour, but enforcement will be changed from a 12 p.m. start time to 11 a.m. daily.

Free parking is still available on side streets and lots two blocks north and south of Atlantic Avenue and west of Swinton Avenue. Twenty-minute free parking is still available for quick errands but your plate must be registered in the ParkMobile app or payment must be made to a nearby kiosk. Parking fees can be avoided entirely by purchasing a resident or visitor parking permit. See below.

  • City resident permit: Residents can register their vehicle with the parking office at the bottom of the Old School Square parking garage (95 N.E. First Ave.) to receive 50 cents off the parking rate at any downtown meter. Residents can also pay $12 per year for free parking at any spot off Atlantic Avenue (not including beachside).
  • Downtown resident permit: Available to downtown Delray residents; costs $97 per year and covers any area without onsite parking
  • Beach parking permit: Costs $97 per year and waives meter fees at beachside lots, excluding A1A and the Gleason Street Lot.
  • Senior beach permit: Available for residents ages 70 and up
  • Marina Historic District permit package: Available for Marina district residents

The City has also launched a Downtown Delray employee parking permit. Those who work, own a business or volunteer in the Central Business District are qualified. The parking program is in its pilot stage and will continue through April 2026 when its future will be decided by the city commission.

The permit costs $10 per month and must be renewed monthly. Permit holders can park for any length of time in any city parking space, lot or garage except on Atlantic Avenue and A1A. Applications can be made at the Delray parking office at the bottom of the Old School Square garage. Applicants must bring a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of employment (a notarized employer letter or recent pay stub.)
