The founder of the popular Coco Market released a video on Instagram after a teenager was bitten by a dog at a market event.

“The incident involving a dog and a market guest at our February event was deeply unfortunate and it’s something that I take very seriously,” said Corey Heyman. “Since then we’ve taken time to reflect and to review and to strengthen our processes across the board. We’re going to be moving forward with intention and care.”

A teenager was bit in the face by a dog that was brought to the market by a local animal rescue. According to the Palm Beach Post, the event organizers did not have a license to bring animals to the market.

“The City authorizes special events through the issuance of a revocable license that provides terms and conditions for each special event,” Moore said in a statement to the newspaper. “Because Ms. Heyman did not indicate that animals would be present at her events, the City had no reason to believe that a dog rescue would be a vendor at the Coco Market.”

The popular market—which has hosted monthly gatherings with vendors, music, yoga, drum circles and other fun—announced that they would be pausing events until June. There will be a Coco Market in Jupiter on April 19.

The Coco Market first addressed the incident on Feb. 23, sharing that they were “taking a brief pause at Old School Square through May as we strengthen things behind the scenes after a recent incident.”

Supporters from the community took the comments to encourage the team and share how much they have enjoyed the market.

Heyman said in her video, “I can promise you that Coco Market means everything to me and that I remain fully committed to this community and to creating something positive, inclusive and impactful.”
