It’s not too late to help provide local students with nutritious meals as they head back to the classroom. Now through Aug. 31, the Palm Beach County Food Bank’s fourth-annual “One Can, Two Can, Who Can? You Can!” Back-to-School Food Drive is calling for donations of nonperishable foods, which can be donated directly to the Palm Beach County Food Bank (PBCFB) at 701 Boutwell Road, Suite A-2 in Lake Worth Beach, or the following locations:
- First Horizon locations from Jupiter to Boca Raton
- Club Pilates Wellington
- Velocity Community Credit Union locations from Jupiter to Royal Palm Beach
- RE/MAX Select Group locations from Delray Beach to Parkland
- Palm Beach County Library Systems
The food bank is seeking protein-rich donations such as canned beans, fish, chicken, beef, peanut butter, vegetables and fruit. Protein specifically has been linked with increases in concentration and immune health, perfect for helping kids show up to class ready to learn. All donations should be shelf-stable with no glass packaging.
Currently, one in five children in Palm Beach County suffer from food insecurity. This year, the food bank hopes to surpass last year’s 2,804 pounds of food collected (equal to 2,337 meals) to ensure that no children go to bed hungry.
“We’re finding more families are struggling to keep food on the table,” says PBCFB CEO Jamie Kendall. “That said, it’s our duty to ensure that children are receiving the right nutrients to start the school year strong.
“It’s critical that they receive protein-rich foods that help growth, concentration, immunity and more for classroom performance.”
