Over the past few years, I’ve been fortunate enough to explore some of the world’s most remarkable fashion exhibits in cities like Paris, Milan, and Florence. Yet, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that an equally unforgettable fashion experience is happening right here at The Wick Theatre & Costume Museum.
Spearheaded by Managing Director and Museum Club Curator Kimberly Wick, the museum has become a destination for those who appreciate the artistry of costume design. Kimberly’s passion for preserving fashion history and bringing it vividly to life shines through in every detail of the museum’s latest immersive exhibition: “Dressing the Edwardians.”
Following in the inspiring footsteps of her mother, Marilyn Wick, Kimberly and her team transport visitors to the Edwardian era. From 1901 to 1916, this significant period marked the dawn of haute couture and an enduring standard of elegance that continues to inspire modern design.

The exhibit is more than just a display of garments; it’s a fully immersive experience. Large 360-degree screens surround the space, projecting a beautifully narrated visual journey led by Kimberly herself. Imagine stepping into the world of early “Downton Abbey” where women’s gowns dazzled with embroidery, lace, and intricate trims. Meanwhile, men exuded sophistication in tailored suits, polished top hats, and elegant canes.
One of the most captivating highlights is the opportunity to see original Broadway costumes from beloved productions like “Titanic,” “Funny Girl,” “Ragtime,” “The Music Man,” and “My Fair Lady.” These treasures, meticulously preserved, reveal both the artistry and storytelling power of costume design. It’s worth noting that Costume World, also founded by Marilyn Wick, houses the largest costume collection in the nation, with more than 1.2 million pieces. This extraordinary resource underscores the Wick family’s deep commitment to preserving theatrical history. Within the exhibit, Kimberly’s narration adds another layer of richness, sharing fascinating behind-the-scenes stories about the creation of these iconic costumes.

The “Titanic” collection, showcased in the museum’s back gallery, feels especially poignant. With guided tours available, guests are given an insider’s glimpse into how these costumes were designed, built, and preserved, a testament to the enduring legacy of theatre and fashion.
What makes the exhibit even more extraordinary is how timeless many of these garments feel. With their craftsmanship and elegance, you can almost imagine them being worn today.
For fashion lovers, theatre enthusiasts, or anyone who simply wants to step into history, “Dressing the Edwardians” is an experience not to be missed, and a perfect outing to enjoy with friends. Additionally, be sure to enjoy great performances throughout the year at The Wick Theatre, an arts cornerstone that we are fortunate to have in our community.
