Music at St. Paul’s presents Bach’s Goldberg Variations with harpsichordist Paul Cienniwa

December 31, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

On New Year’s Eve, Monday, December 31, 2018 at 4pm, Music at St. Paul’s will present harpsichordist Paul Cienniwa in a performance of J.S. Bach’s “Goldberg Variations.” Cienniwa will play this most celebrated of all keyboard works on the instrument for which it was intended: a two-manual harpsichord. Ring in the New Year in 18th-century style with Bach’s monumental Goldberg Variations!

The Goldberg Variations is a set of thirty variations based on the harmonic scheme of an aria that begins and ends the work. Bach takes us through his genius, with increasingly complex canons, virtuoso movements, and deep introspection. “I can’t think of a better way to welcome 2019 than with one of the greatest works ever written,” says Paul Cienniwa. “A new year is a time to celebrate the best in humanity, and I am happy to do that with Bach’s masterpiece!” The performance, lasting under 90 minutes, will be followed by a festive reception.

Tickets are a $20 suggested donation (18 and under are FREE) and are only available at the door on the day of the concert. For more information on this event and Music at St. Paul’s 31st Season, visit music.stpaulsdelray.org. St. Paul’s is handicapped accessible.
