Sunday Lecture Series

September 2, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Are you looking for something different and interesting to do on a Sunday afternoon … something that is free and fun?

Spend the best part of your afternoon on the first Sunday of each month at Manatee Lagoon and hear from a variety of interesting environmental personalities who happen to specialize in telling stories about really cool things – like the octopus population under the Blue Heron Bridge in Riviera Beach or know why manatees really do matter?

Everyone is welcome on the first Sunday of the month, and other Sundays as noted on the calendar. Talks are scheduled from 2 to 3 p.m. with time for a question-and-answer session afterward. We will exhibit field work conducted by our Manatee Masters, never-before-seen video and photography celebrating the ecosystem and the diverse and special aquatic life inhabiting the Lake Worth Lagoon and lots more.

Ample seating is provided. Advance registration is encouraged, but we welcome walk-ins as well.

Manatee Master and FAU graduate student Shelby Hoover will present about her research on sea turtle nesting. Shelby will speak about sea turtle nesting in Florida, including her examination of a 40-year sea turtle nesting database. She will review how nesting success is determined and reveal how some nesters are more successful than others. She will wrap up with a conversation about how you can help protect nesting sea turtles.
