Supporting Children’s Emotional Wellbeing

August 20, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Worries, sadness, and irritability are normal reactions to stress, but if your child appears to be struggling with emotions that interfere with school, friendships, family relationships, basic hygiene practices, or other areas of daily functioning, what do you do? We all may experience emotional dysregulation when faced with an upsetting situation that brings about strongly felt emotions that are difficult to recover from (i.e. worries about a pandemic, virtual school, job stress…). Under the current chaotic circumstances, it is reasonable to experience difficulty in managing the intensity or duration of uncomfortable emotions like fear, sadness, or anger. This class will teach caregivers about recognizing various mental health and emotional needs in children, how to support and respond to emotional reactions in children and in ourselves, and strategies for attuning to, talking with, and supporting your child when emotionally dysregulated.
