As one of the first to experience the reimagined Islander Resort in Islamorada, I was struck by how seamlessly modern luxury blended with the timeless charm of the Florida Keys.
Nestled on 24 acres of tropical beauty, this was more than just a vacation spot. It was an invitation to relax, reconnect, and soak in the island magic, in a place where great hospitality and the promise of enjoyment go hand in hand.
From the moment I stepped onto the property, the air smelled of salt, sea, and fresh flowers—instantly setting the tone for what felt like a perfect getaway. The 114 redesigned bungalows and suites, along with the 25 bayside villas, were a dream. Their soft pastel tones, polished wood accents, and natural textures made each space feel like it was part of the landscape.
The resort also introduced 12 new cabana poolside rooms with expansive patios leading to private cabanas with dedicated food and drink service, while 14 spacious oceanside suites, including the Islander two-bedroom suites, offer home-like comforts with full kitchens and stunning Atlantic views. Finally, the Bayside Villas, designed for extended stays and family vacations, have two bedrooms, a gourmet kitchen, private deck, and access to the Sunset Pool, Emerald Beach, and boat slips.
Our bungalow had a private patio that became my favorite spot for morning coffee, surrounded by swaying palms and ocean breezes. With a perfect view of the beach, I found myself really enjoying those moments in the morning, with a book as well, as I sipped on my coffee. The expanded beachfront quickly became my happy place. Reclining under a handcrafted palapa on a plush lounger, I could have spent hours watching the waves roll in.

Looking for a more high octane experience, my husband took full advantage of the resort’s activities, heading out for paddleboarding on the calm, crystal-clear waters of Islamorada. He came back raving about the beauty of exploring the shoreline from the water, especially since this was his first time that he tried paddleboarding at all! He loved it and I was proud that he decided to finally give this ocean activity a try.
Evenings were reserved for indulging in the resort’s incredible dining. Dinner at Drift on the Beach was unforgettable—fresh spiny lobster and flame-grilled lamb chops, paired with the kind of sunset that makes you stop mid-bite just to take it all in. Another night, we grabbed cocktails at the oceanfront Coccoloba, where the laid-back vibe perfectly matched the vibes of the Keys.
We explored the saltwater Terrace Pool, where I spent one blissful afternoon in a cabana. While there we laid back, took in the relaxed poolside environment, and enjoyed some cold beers, appetizers and refreshments. It was such a chill moment for us, and we cherished it as a break from our hectic daily schedule of work and errands. The resort also boasts a 9-hole putting course that is fun and scenic. And then there’s the Firelight Cove, which was seemingly a go-to spot for guests after dinner, as we watched many sit around the bonfire and sharing stories.

This wasn’t just a typical resort experience at all. It felt like a love letter to the Keys. Every detail, from the marine-inspired columns to the use of local materials, reflected the area’s unique character. The Islander Resort also took steps toward sustainability, incorporating solar panels and eco-friendly systems to honor its stunning surroundings.
Our stay was a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and connection, and one we’ll treasure for years to come. Oh, and one that I’ll keep recommending, especially for locals that wish to take a laid-back escape.
Leaving was bittersweet. The Islander Resort isn’t just a place to visit, it’s a place that stays with you.
