Florida Atlantic University is on a roll.

Just weeks after the FAU men’s basketball team competed in the Final Four, the women’s beach volleyball team is now set to make its second-ever NCAA Championship appearance.

And talk about beach volleyball at its best.

The Sandy Owls are the No. 22 seed in the tournament that will take place May 5-7 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

FAU supporters organized a surprise send-off for the beach volleyball team Tuesday at Neiman Marcus Boca Raton’s Mariposa restaurant. The 17 players and their coaches gathered for a private celebration lunch and kudos from city leaders including Mayor Scott Singer and City Council members Yvette Trucker and Fran Nachlas.

The Sandy Owls will face off against the No. 5 LSU Tigers in the opening round (a single elimination bracket) on Friday, May 5 for a 1 p.m. ET first serve.

The quarterfinals and semifinals will take place on May 6 and will be televised on ESPN2 while the national championship on May 7 will be televised on ESPN.
