Local nonprofit leader Evan Darnell has done a lot of good for the community, and he was recently recognized for it: he was inducted into the White Castle Cravers Hall of Fame.
A resident of Delray Beach, he was joined by 13 other inductees into the 2025 class; the group received a two-day, all expenses paid trip to Columbus, Ohio. According to the restaurant, the award is the “ultimate honor for individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary devotion and love for White Castle.”
He said in his acceptance speech, “I’ve had some fun moments in my life, but being inducted into the White Castle Hall of Fame might be the only one where people immediately ask, ‘so how many sliders does it take to get into the White Castle Hall of Fame?’ And the answer is a lot.”
He joked that it required “years of training, late nights, real commitment. Honestly, it might be the most consistent discipline I’ve ever shown in my entire life.”
Darnell is the founder of The Red Meat Lovers Club, a philanthropic and networking organization that brings together “steaksmen” to raise money for local nonprofits. The group has raised money for Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County, Jordan Avi Ogman Foundation, Selfless Love Foundation, Boca Raton Police Foundation, and The George Snow Scholarship Fund, Atlantic High School, Helping Israel Fund, Caring House Project, and more. In January, the group spread to Las Vegas.
“The real reason why White Castle means so much to me was because of my dad,” Darnell explained during his speech. “Growing up with my dad, we were just different people…we didn’t share any of the same hobbies at all. But there was one place, one place where we were completely on the same page: it was White Castle.”
“When I think of where [Red Meat Lovers Club] idea started, it probably started in a booth in Eatontown, New Jersey.”
Darnell was featured as a Hometown Hero in the November/December 2024 issue of Boca magazine; he challenged us to make a scratch-and-sniff cover (we’re working on it).
The Red Meat Lovers Club’s next event is May 6 at Sundy Village, benefitting Myla’s Beleaf.
