There’s nothing we love more than seeing women supporting women, especially when they can do it with their own local businesses here in South Florida. Whenever we come across a brand that sparks our attention, it’s always a huge plus when we find out they are owned by local, passionate women looking to make a difference in the world. Because March is Women’s History Month, we wanted to take this opportunity to spotlight some of our favorite products by go-getter South Florida gals.

If this pandemic has taught us anything, it’s to truly go after what you want in life no matter what it looks like. Start your own business, go back to school, become a parent, take up a new hobby or workout. Now is the time to get out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself, which is exactly what these South Florida women have done.

My Posh Planner

Let’s start with My Posh Planner, because we love ourselves a good planner and have a lot to say about this company. Started by SoFla local Portia Smith DeJean, this product is a true passion project that manifested itself into reality. The end result is My Posh Planner, which incorporates a budget, monthly manifestation journal, birthday and anniversary tracker, and more while showcasing various ethnicities and holidays.

“We noticed there was not a lot of inclusion in this industry,’ Smith said, continuing “We wanted to change that. Imagery and inclusion are important, now more than ever! We included various ethnicities and holidays so every woman can feel represented like the boss she is. Plus the functionality of our planner is like no other, it combines a manifestation journal, budgets, and more, all in one.”

As she said, this isn’t just an ordinary planner– it also has the functionality of several different journals. After spending A LOT of time journaling this year, we are totally on board for this section of the planner as well. It’s great for people looking to start the year, month, week, or even day off right, and stay on course so they are held accountable for their written words. We can’t wait to whip out our colored pens and stickers and get to planning!

Protect My Shoes

You have certainly seen us write and post on social media about Protect My Shoes because quite frankly, we are obsessed and couldn’t live without it. Local lady and friend Olivia Hollaus (pictured at the top of this blog) created Protect My Shoes for women who want to take better care of their footwear, and her product helps them to do just that. Olivia is quite the go-getter–she launched her business as a new mom back in 2016, and it’s still going strong today.

So, what exactly is her business model? Protect My Shoes is a game-changer in your closet. We’re all guilty of stacking our shoes on top of each other, which results in them eventually becoming ruined or smushed, but not with Protect My Shoes. Olivia knew exactly what she was doing when she created this business, as she was experiencing the same problems we all do with our shoes. She was tired of squashed-up shoes in her suitcase, carry-on, and gym bag, so she created a (patented) line of fashionably functional shoe stuffers to solve that problem for all of us. This is the go-to solution to keeping your shoes looking new for a long time to come. GENIUS!

The House of Perna

How could we write an article about local women business owners without featuring the one and only Amanda Perna? This remarlable local woman is the Founder, CEO, and Head Fashion Designer at The House of Perna in Delray Beach. Amanda has become a recognizable face around Delray and South Florida at large because of her electric personality, which also matches her strong work ethic and amazing vision for the future of the fashion industry. During the start of the pandemic, Amanda and her team were one of the first local businesses to take matters into their own hands and create an abundance of face masks that are not only safe, but will also match her show-stopping clothing and handbags. They also have matching options for you and your kiddies! How cute is that?

And as much as we love those masks, the handbags from House of Perna are probably our favorite part of her business. She is the first to make the “straw beach bag” look into something more, something South Florida women turn to when they’re both on and off the beach. We have at least 3 of these and love switching them out to go with our House of Perna outfits. Give it up for one of our favorite local women, Amanda Perna!

Hubs & Hers

Another brand and amazing woman we have to feature in an article like this is Lindsey Farina, the creator of Hubs & Hers, which is one of our favorite apparel companies headquartered right here in South Florida. We have been following this company for years, and are so proud to see how far they have come since day one. Lindsey had a vision, “a his & hers line created by a husband & wife,” and it has taken off tremendously over the years and we couldn’t be happier for her. As a new mom, she recently pivoted the company to also target moms, dads, and even the little ones!
