This month, Delray Medical Center announced the opening of its 1,000-square-foot state-of-the-art cardiac electrophysiology lab.
A cardiac electrophysiology lab is used to treat a wide range of heart rhythm, or arrhythmia, disorders, including atrial fibrillation. The catheter-based procedures offered at the center can treat rhythm disorders without the need for surgery, according to a Delray Medical Center press release.
Among its many features, Delray Medical Center is offering the Allura Xper FD10 X-ray system, a digital system which enables physicians to capture and view detailed images of the heart. The technology provides fast, accurate diagnoses and treatment of cardiac diseases, while providing minimal radiation exposure to patients.
Delray Medical Center is the only electrophysiology lab in Palm Beach County to have the DoseAware system. This system gives real-time feedback of X-ray doses, so doctors and staff minimize radiation exposure, according to the release.
And for heart valve procedures…
In October 2012, Delray Medical Center announced the expansion of its cardiac services with the opening of the new Valve Clinic, which unites interventional cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons in one location, to evaluate and treat complex heart valve disorders.
The staff at the Valve Clinic sees a variety of patients including those with heart murmurs, stenosis, regurgitation or any condition affecting the aortic or mitral valve. Symptoms of these heart problems differ but can include: chest pain, irregular heartbeat, fatigue, dizziness, low or high blood pressure and shortness of breath, according to a Delray Medical Center press release.
“Whereas traditional diagnostic testing involves multiple visits and tests spanning days, the Valve Clinic at Delray Medical Center coordinates all patient diagnostic testing in one day,” said Delray Medical Center Chief Nursing Officer Jennifer Chiusano.
Delray Medical Center is at 5352 Linton Blvd., Delray Beach, 33484. For more information, call 561-498-4440 or visit www.delraymedicalctr.com.
