If you’re looking for a staycation, girls’ weekend, or just a reason to get dressed to the nines, let me introduce you to a place that will make you feel like a VIP from the moment you step inside.

Hyatt Centric Las Olas isn’t just a hotel, but it’s a fun experience that works perfectly as a place to stay and enjoy an evening, and to book a room for possibly a much-needed staycation. I recently had the pleasure of spending an unforgettable evening here, filled with delicious food, glamorous cocktails, and a little bit of speakeasy magic.

And let me tell you, if you’re going to do it, do it right. This is the kind of night where you dress up, channel your inner Gatsby, and celebrate life. Which is exactly what I did, with a crown and a Glinda-inspired gown straight out of one of my favorite recent films, “Wicked,” based on the beloved Broadway musical. Hey, they said a speakeasy was on the itinerary, so why not go full vintage fantasy?

Cocktails and Dinner Fit for a Queen

The night kicked off with drinks by the Harborwood Urban Kitchen & Bar, the heartbeat of Hyatt Centric Las Olas. The hotel bar’s décor is impressive, with floor-to-ceiling windows perfect for taking in the energy of Downtown Fort Lauderdale and a view of the sunset over the city’s skyline.

The mixologists crafted classic cocktails with a modern twist, and I recommend a visit, especially for dinner, when you stay at the hotel. I started with a glass of wine, then one of my favorites came into the picture—a Cosmopolitan. I love that fancy feeling that I get when I hold the glass, and it matched my dress perfectly.

My bestie Sharma, a powerhouse photographer and an absolute warrior who recently beat breast cancer, was my date for the evening and she opted for a glass of wine herself. Because if there’s anyone who knows how to savor life’s victories, it’s her. It’s been a celebration lately, proving that life is meant to be lived. Never forget that. We toasted to strength, joy, and the kind of nights that make you forget everything except the moment you’re in.

As for our meal, Harborwood Urban Kitchen & Bar’s menu is a global journey wrapped in modern American flavors. Offerings include crispy calamari, a truffle burger, and a delicious classic key lime pie, which we recommend for dessert when you stay the night and come downstairs for dinner at this great restaurant. The service was impeccable, and the ambiance struck that perfect balance between upscale and inviting.

The chef brought out platters where we were able to try some top dishes—the charcuterie board is a great start, and you can sense that every meat and cheese is carefully selected.

Now, it’s time for Room 901, the hotel’s hidden speakeasy that quite literally blew me away. This isn’t just a bar, it’s an invitation into another era, and once I had the chance to visit, I realized that they are doing this whole speakeasy environment vibe just right. To get in, you need a room key or an invite (which instantly makes it feel more exclusive). Once inside, the atmosphere changes completely.

It’s dark and moody, with plush seating, vintage décor, and a bar that looks like it was plucked straight out of Jay Gatsby’s mansion. Classy and decadent were the first words that came to my mind. Sharma and I were super excited for drinks. Some highlights of the menu include The Vesper, a sophisticated gin-and-vodka concoction that would make James Bond proud. And do not leave without trying out their old-fashioned; especially if this is one of your favorite drinks, like it is mine. It’s a true celebration of its classic flavors.

Beyond the Speakeasy and Restaurant

If this were just a restaurant or just a speakeasy, it would already be worth the visit for a day. But Hyatt Centric Las Olas offers so much more, and if you are coming from cities such as Boca Raton, Miami and beyond, staying the night is the way to go about a visit.

From the hotel’s rooftop pool with skyline views, perfect for lounging in the sun or snapping a few social media-worthy pictures, to the sleek and modern rooms that emulate that modern city-feel, you’ll feel ready to celebrate any occasion, even if it’s just a quick break. And since it’s right in Las Olas, guests can step outside and be in the middle of great shopping, dining, and entertainment destinations in Fort Lauderdale.

Also, take my advice and don’t be afraid to dress your best. Why wait until tomorrow to bring out that cool outfit that you love? Do it today.

Visit Hyatt Centric Las Olas for reservations and more details. Visit Room 901 to experience the speakeasy.
