It’s no secret that restaurants are struggling to fill positions. Well, the Community Classroom Project (CCP), our local nonprofit focused on experiential learning and entrepreneurship opportunities, is doing something about it.

It has organized the inaugural Dish It Out! culinary competition to help bridge the gap between education and the restaurant industry. On May 3, the Olympiad-style event will take aspiring young chefs and hospitality professionals ages 14-18 through a series of real-world front and back-of-house challenges.

Participants will compete to win a spot in one of the immersive training programs, which are designed to prepare students for real-world restaurant careers through hands-on experience, mentorship and career coaching. These work training programs were developed in collaboration with local chefs, culinary instructors, food entrepreneurs, and in partnership with the Palm Beach County School District. They are funded by the Children’s Services Council and the Community Classroom Project’s JP Kline Culinary Arts Scholarship Fund to provide students with merit- and need-based scholarships.
