Even more live theatre, music and other entertainment will descend on the northern Palm Beaches next season, under the auspices of the region’s premier cultural driver. The Island Theatre, an intimate black-box space adjacent to the main stage of Maltz Jupiter Theatre, will open in October after years of development as a centerpiece of the organization’s multipronged “Believe” Capital Campaign.

The $5 million, 198-seat theater will specialize in diversified programming that will run independently of the larger theater’s operations. The inaugural schedule of the Island Theatre—named in honor of a major, anonymous donor from Jupiter Island—will begin Oct. 6-20 with a production of “Becoming Dr. Ruth,” playwright Mark St. Germain’s lively and moving solo play about Ruth Westheimer’s journey from the clutches of Nazi Germany to her perch as America’s most famous sexologist.

The season continues with Aire: Antigravity (Nov. 14-17), an original, high-flying cirque-style acrobatics extravaganza, set to a wide range of music spanning from Frank Sinatra to Sia, produced by the Maltz Conservatory. December will welcome a three-part series of live holiday music, from Dueling Yule-ing Pianos (Dec. 19) to the string-music showcase Classic Christmas By Candlelight (Dec. 20) to a Jazzy Christmas Concert (Dec. 21) with a nine-piece jazz orchestra.

Magician and mentalist Dennis Watkins will mystify audiences in the new year with his “Magic Parlour” show (Jan. 2-5), which will give way to an eclectic cabaret series in February and March featuring a Bette Midler tribute (Feb. 13), Anthony Nunziata (Feb. 14), Mikayla Smith (Feb. 15), a Judy Garland celebration (March 14) and Avery Sommers (March 15).

Perhaps saving the best for last, the Island Theatre will conclude its debut season with a production of Edward Albee’s tempestuous masterpiece “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” (April 22-May 4, 2025), in which a professor and his wife, while suffering through an acrimonious marriage, draw a naïve younger couple into their psychological games.

Individual tickets for the season will be available starting Monday, April 22. The Island Theatre’s programming runs concurrently with the Maltz’s main stage slate of shows for 2024-2025, which includes “Deceived,” “Once,” “Frozen,” “The Lehman Trilogy” and “Guys & Dolls.”
