Earlier this month, Mathews Brewing Co. announced it would be closing its doors after 10 years in business.

Owner Dave Mathews shared that the Lake Worth Beach brewery is closing March 13 and he will be relocating to his hometown, Tampa.

“Believe it or not, I turned 62 last year and I have been working like a dog since I was 15,” he wrote on social media. “It’s been a lot of fun, but it’s time for me to pivot once again.”

An engineer who pivoted to brewing, Mathews brewed out of his garage for 23 years before opening Mathews Brewing Co. in 2016. It was the first craft brewery and taproom in the city. The community hub was known for its suds, dog-friendly atmosphere, live music, food trucks and Zen garden.

Mathews has planned a farewell tour, with a schedule of tribute bands on Feb. 28, March 7 and 13; the final show will be Cranberries Tribute. All the shows are free.

“Thanks to Lake Worth Beach, our great customers, all the amazing bands that have played here, all the dogs that have passed thru, our outstanding staff thru the years and all the food trucks that supported us,” Mathews wrote.
