Whether for breakfast or a dessert, glazed or filled with jams and creams, the delectable doughnut is a fan favorite. In honor of the round pastry, June 1 has been dubbed National Doughnut Day, and Palm Beach County is bursting with local shops serving up the delicacies.

Doughboy

They say bigger is better, but at this Boca Raton store, they go the other way with no hesitation: mini doughnuts. Made with a vanilla cake base, the doughnuts are dubbed such names as Winter is Coming, Ninja’s Pick, Sugar Baby, Hands Off My!, and I’m a Boss. Small in size, but plenty of attitude. Plus, today you’ll be gifted with a mini doughnut with each transaction made. 126 NE Second St., Boca Raton; 561/617-1887; godoughboy.com

Doughnut Works

Just barely a month old, the shop boasts a menu of more than 30 different flavors of doughnuts—you’ll be hard-pressed to walk out of this place without something you like. To celebrate the holiday, the store is giving a free doughnut with any purchase. 301 W. Atlantic Ave. Suite R3A, Delray Beach; 561/808-7122; doughnutworks.com

Duck Donuts

The famed doughnut shop has locations across the country, but just three in the state of Florida—and we’re lucky that one of them is in Boca Raton! For National Doughnut Day, guests will receive a free classic doughnut. Polo Club Shoppes, 5030 Champion Blvd., Boca Raton; 561/334-2115; duckdonuts.com

Jupiter Donuts

The stores’ “donut engineers” begin making the delicious pastries at midnight so they’re fresh and ready to go when the shops open at 6 a.m. Flavors include old faithfuls but they also serve up some unique flavors like blueberry white iced sprinkles, Butterfinger, Heath Bar, Kit Kat, and the fabled Kronut. There’s currently stores across the county, and a location is coming soon to Boca Raton! 141 Center St., Jupiter; 561/741-5290; jupiterdonuts.com

Nani’s Dough

Not only is it National Doughnut Day, but it’s the day before this Delray Beach shop turns 1! All the doughnuts made from scratch, as well as the jams, compotes, fillings, glazes and toppings. If you’re really in love with doughnuts, check out Nani’s doughnut-making classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Visit their store today for a free doughnut. 601 N Congress Ave #406, Delray Beach; 561/303-1102; nanisdough.com
