The 19-year-old man who defaced Delray Beach’s LGBTQ Pride intersection has agreed to plead guilty—but he won’t become a convicted felon.

Dylan Reese Brewer thus will avoid adjudication on the more serious charge of criminal mischief. He also faced a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving. On Feb. 4, he burned his truck tires over the intersection three times. According to the probable cause affidavit, Brewer nearly hit a bystander.

After five delays in the case, prosecutors offered a deal that Brewer accepted Monday afternoon—one day before another hearing was scheduled.

Brewer will plead guilty to two misdemeanors. The offer calls for 12 months’ probation on each count, to be served consecutively and with no early termination. He would have to serve 75 hours of community service in both cases and attend an eight-hour anger management class. He would have to pay Delray Beach nearly $6,000 in restitution.

Rand Hoch, who founded the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council (PBCHRC), opposes the deal. A plea conference is set for the week of Jan. 6. The PBCHRC and the AIDS Healthcare Foundation sponsored the intersection, which was defaced by another driver a week after its dedication in 2021.

I’ll have more in my Thursday post.
