Old Town Tavern (10 E. Boca Raton Rd., 561/347-9037), an outpost of casual Boca dining, is back after closing for renovation with a brand-new look and brand-new menu.
Peter McAllister’s all-American eatery has smoothed a bit of white tablecloth over its pub-grubby essentials, relocating the bar and adding palm tree-etched wall panels, acres of dark wood paneling and trim, and a plethora of flat-screen TVs.
The menu doesn’t stray far from its American roots but does go beyond the usual pub-grub fare, with such staples as wings, sandwiches and burgers now matched to penne with vodka-tomato cream sauce and pancetta, rotisserie-roasted half organic chicken, twin grilled pork chops with mac ‘n’ cheese, and on Sundays, slow-roasted prime rib.
You can still get out the door with your arms and legs intact, however, as prices rarely break the $10 barrier, proving that new and improved doesn’t have to mean more expensive.
