Well, Moquila is No-More-a but the elegant spot near Boca’s Royal Palm Place still has a Latin flavor with its new tenant, The Spaniard Tapas Bar & Café (99 SE Mizner Blvd., 561/347-7000).
The creation of chef-owner Jorge Luis Fernandez, former proprietor of La Barraca in Fort Lauderdale, The Spaniard certainly has the look and feel of the Iberian Peninsula down, with lots of dark wood paneling, wood-beamed ceiling, ornate wrought-iron chandeliers and earth-toned tile floor.
The menu features all the traditional Spanish dishes, from tapas like gambas al ajillo, the traditional Spanish potato-and-onion “tortilla,” and the insanely delicious jamon Iberico, as well as a roster of paellas from Valenciana (chicken and seafood) to del Monte (rabbit and snails), and assorted other entrees, soups, salads and giant sandwiches.
There’s also flamenco—two dinner shows nightly on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Can I get an “ole!”?
