As the temperatures start to cool a (little) bit, the Society scene is coming in hot this November in Boca Raton!

Boca Raton Historical Society Golden Jubilee

It’s one thing to support a city in major ways, but it’s big news when you get to cut the 50th anniversary cake! That’s just what longtime Boca Raton supporter and philanthropist Dick Schmidt was pleased to do at the Boca Raton Historical Society’s Golden Jubilee on Oct. 26. It was a journey back through five glorious decades in Boca Raton as hundreds gathered at the historic landmark, the Addison, to celebrate with live entertainment, decade-inspired cocktails, gorgeous decorations and food stations galore. While the community of Boca Raton began to form in the early 1900s, the Historical Society came together in 1972 and the rest, they say, is history! Join Paige Kornblue and some of Boca History’s best on location at the Golden Jubilee by listening to Today’s Paige the Podcast, Episode 33

Woman Volunteer of the Year

Listen to the words Carly Yoost delivered to a crowd at Boca West Country Club on Nov. 4 and you’ll see why the Child Rescue Coalition founder took home the Junior League of Boca Raton’s 2022 Woman Volunteer of the Year Award.

“Volunteerism is a paycheck for the soul. There are good days and bad days and ups and downs with it. There are days when your work isn’t getting recognized or some donor says ‘No’ to you. But there are days when your work rescues a child. Or days when your work turns into the lead investigators need to arrest a child predator. And then there are days when an entire community recognizes you for all of that work,” said Yoost.

Yoost and her Child Rescue Coaltion team work to rescue children from sexual abuse by building technology for law enforcement, free of charge, to track, arrest and prosecute child predators. Yoost was one of 35 outstanding Palm Beach County volunteers celebrated at the 35th annual luncheon.

Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life

If anyone needs a shot of support, a cup of confidence or a teaspoon of toughness this holiday season, see the Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life team. Founders Barb Schmidt and Michelle Maros filled the cups of many over the past month at their Power of Cultivating Compassion luncheon and Managing Burnout and Building Resilience webinar. My takeaways include:

  • Be where your feet are. – Thich Naht Hanh
  • Love your past enough to move on and let it go. – Barb Schmidt
  • Nothing can heal anger except compassion. – Thich Naht Hanh
  • Trust the timing of your life. – Barb Schmidt

If you missed these events and want to learn ways to let go of stress and start the new year feeling clear and confident, check out Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life’s Dec. 6 lecture at the Boca Raton Innovation Campus (BRIC).

YMCA of South Palm Beach County VIP Reception

The YMCA of South Palm Beach County also celebrates its big 5-0! Supporters gathered at Neiman Marcus Boca Raton to kickoff the upcoming 50th Anniversary Gala and to toast the Y’s years of work strengthening this community, our youth and families and our health. YMCA of South Palm Beach County President & CEO Jason Hagensick even strutted his stuff on the runway, modeling Neiman Marcus’ latest styles, suits and shoes! The 50th Anniversary Gala is chaired by Terry and Jerry Fedele and presented by Myrna Gordon Skurnick. Click here for Gala tickets and information.

Keep Memories Alive Walk

High fives and hugs to those who support memory care and wellness and who also are up and at ‘em walking the mall first thing Sunday morning! The 16th Annual Keep Memories Alive Walk took place at the Town Center of Boca Raton in support of the Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center and its adult day care participant scholarships and caregiver programs. This year’s walk was dedicated to the memory of Former Boca Raton Mayor Susan Whelchel.
